Meet Dr. Joyce Fernandes
Dr. Fernandes is a Board-Certified Pediatric Dentist, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and a graduate in Pediatric Dentistry from the Louisiana State University, School of Dentistry. On completion of her Residency in Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Fernandes completed a Fellowship in General Anesthesia, Oral and Conscious Sedation and Treatment of Special Needs Children at the Kosair Children's Hospital at the University of Kentucky. Thereafter, Dr. Fernandes joined the University of Maryland, College of Dentistry as a Post-doctoral Fellow, where she taught dental students in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Fernandes has lectured to dental students both nationally and internationally and has been practicing Pediatric Dentistry in Northern Virginia since 2001.
Her vast clinical and didactic experience in addition to the extended training with special- needs children enables her to provide the utmost in specialized care for all children. Dr. Fernandes focuses on making each child's dental visit a fun and enjoyable experience. Regardless of the treatment needs, Dr. Fernandes will help your child’s dental health with her caring and professional touch. A strong advocate for preventive dentistry, Dr. Fernandes knows exactly how to create a dental home for your baby, toddler, child and adolescent.
She is a member of the American Academy Pediatric Dentistry, the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Dentistry, the ADA, the Virginia Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She has a big passion for service and serves on the NVDS Executive Committee of Give Kids A Smile & has spearheaded Give Kids A Smile every year since 2009. She also serves on the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Public Oral Health Advocacy.
Dr. Fernandes loves to spend her time with family, friends and travel. She also enjoys the outdoors, a good book, multicultural cuisines, and keeping fit.
